The igloo is absolute brick right now. I used a tub and made snow very slushy and now it’s froze solid. Going to keep adding layers of snow and water today to get it really thick!
-4 is it, there is a -2 back on Valentines Day 1899 in the MHX climate records for Greenville....Last night we set a new record low for this date, we will do the same tonight, if we get lower than -4 at PGV that will be the ALL TIME record low for PGV...not sure we can get it the Euro dumps DP's into the mid teens below zero though so maybe we can do it, though RGEM and HRRR hang us up right around 0.
We need to be 10 or below by 8-9pm to have a real shot at breaking the record.
10 to 18 in just 20 minutes, lol. Seems the air isn't quite as "calm" as noted. Am surprised different pockets of air can be that dissimilar in temperature but I guess so. Probably plunge back down over the next hour.

Either that or the PGV sensor is crap, which I have always wondered about. But whatever.
Things aren't looking too promising in Fountain right now for making 0 F. But we'll see.

I've been watching the surrounding sites as well to see how they are acting and most have been fluctuating some. Nothing I saw last night made pgv stand out from the rest. Most surrounding sites had lows between 0-3 degrees. Rah thinks below zero is possible tonight along their eastern zones.
With clear skies overhead and an arctic air mass in place with its characteristically bone dry sfc dewpoints, should see overnight temperatures in the single digits across most of central NC with a few sub zero readings likely where a decent snow pack remains (eastern periphery of our forecast area).
Midnight: 4 degrees in little Washington, 7 at PGV, 6 at RWI. But on my back porch it’s still 13, and in Fountain it’s still 15. Probably because Fountain is stuck in a snowhole. Need a better snowpack.

I was far from any bare ground at the house. No melting from underneath as the ground was frozen solid and with the temps we've had since the storm my snowpack has remained largely in tact. I'd guess 3 inches deep in most areas at a minimum. Wakefield has been below zero now 2 nights in a row while most surrounding sites are 0-5 degrees.
2 a.m. -- now up to 8 degrees in little Washington, still 7 at PGV, up to 11 at RWI, 10 degrees at my house and at the Fountain Store. So far tonight, it doesn’t seem we’re getting it done for all the Zero fans around here.
Incredible temps around interior SE Virginia this morning. Wakefield is -10 and several stations are at -5 to -9 and even Ahoskie is at -6. Currently Kinston, PGV, Washington, Rocky Mount are all at 0-3 degrees.
Washington is the only reporting station to officially report -1 so far in MHX zones. We've hit 0 and a lot of other places hit 1. Several home stations over eastern pitt county have shown -2 a few times tonight as well.
