Have college classes in Wendell tmrw so drove there. Only took me 20minutes longer than normal had to detour twice no big deal at all.
Seems like the neuse is the problematic river this time around. We will see in a day or so! For the sake of everyone around I hope the tar doesn't crest that high.

Trying to get my bearings. The Rocky Mount dam(s) feed the Tar River and the Wilson dams feed into the Contentnea. Is this correct?
Yep you got it right. The Contentnea creek is very flood prone too and I know quite a few people who may be flooded from it. I'm really hoping it doesn't go as high as forecast or else they'll be losing a lot.
Tar River coming up 2-3" a hr now and it seems to be picking up pace....follow this guy on FB he is a police officer and a Pitt County Commissioner and his post so far have been spot on and ahead of any other source....he suggest the ymay close bridges overnight tonight....

Second highest reading ever at this gauge, and it looks like it stopped sending data at 1:45 am last night so it obviously is higher, around 4pm the water was within a foot of overtopping the bridge on Hwy 33 beside Jaylynns tackle shop for those familiar with the areas...
this is a video I shot when it hit its all time second highest in 2010...there was 2-3 ft of water over the bridge during Floyd, the gauge isnt here its actually a mile up the creek on a small little bridge over the creek its probably not 10 ft wide there....

Yep, very familiar with that bridge. I go over it every time I go to work from Williamston. I guess I'll be finding a new way to work on Wednesday.

Looks like they've been slowly lowering the forecast crest, do you think that will continue to be a trend?
I dunno each time is different, I dont think we can use the speed its rising versus the forecast as a reliable indicator....the Tar River at Louisburg has not even crested yet and thats over a hundred miles of river upstream....I think we see the river rise 2-3" a hr through tomorrow and get to 24-25 ft, then I think it will creep up to 26-28 ft as that upstream stuff starts to work in....basically its top 1 or 2 all time at all these locations so its safe to assume that will be the case in Greenville as well, tomorrow will be the day it really becomes apparent how bad it will be....the same will happen on the Neuse and Contentnea and all the other smaller creeks that will flood homes all over the area....
Here is Louisburg thats still way up there and has to work its way down...
Then this is the gauge right below the dam in Rocky Mount you can see how it fluctuates and holds steady as the dam controls the flow here....if this number started to rise quickly then that signals a problem with the dam
The predicted crest in Tarboro has actually creeped up a tiny bit i think I recall it being at 33 or 34 ft yesterday but maybe not but its forecast to be second all time....
Not sure what to expect with the flooding g. Mathew has already put more water in the river than Floyd did. Upstream numbers are still way up there and that still has to come down.
At work this morning the plant manager said he was told by county emergency director to expect 26 to possibly as high as 30 feet they just weren't sure.

Tar River looks like it will be between 25-26 feet according to the forecast. My pastor lives right off Contentnea Creek and they had to suddenly leave yesterday and may lose everything if it rises as high as it did during Floyd. The good news is it's predicted to stay much lower there than it was during Floyd.

They lowered crest in Greenville to 24.5 ft again but with all the water still up the river its tough to say just how high it gets, county emergency planners still say 25-28 ft is what they think it will do, but its slower to rise and I fear it may be slower to drop....another thing to keep in mind is its impossible to get out of Pitt Co practically....I went to Food Lion and a lot of shelfs we empty and I over heard someone asking when they would get more bred etc and the guy told her that most of the trucks come from Raleigh etc and that they had 2 trucks not show up today already. Same with gas etc....it might 5-6 days before a lot of that stuff can get into town again.

The only way I know to get in and out of east Greenville is NC 33 via Chocowinity. I called work today and they said it was still open. If the river gets to 25 feet, will that backflood Chicod Creek? I was stuck south of Choco for four days during Floyd, so I don't know what was accessible.

That is currently open I live 2-3 miles west of that bridge and rode over to it yesterday afternoon and the water there is actually down....not sure how much it takes to overtop it Grimesland gauge still not in major yet so it should be ok for another day or two....
The gauge in Tarboro is the one I am watching....originally forecasted a 35 ft crest but was then lowered to like 32 and some change....it currently at 34ft and still rising a few inches a hr....the forecast has it back down to 33.1 ft on its next mark and it was suppose to be dropping or at least holding steady by this point....the gauges in Rocky Mount are coming down fast though.....hopefully we stay under 25ft in Gville and it gets below major stage by Mon/Tues next week.

New forecast for Tarboro......back to 35ft again what that means downstream is a big ? mark but it does indicate that current forecast for Greenville is very much a educated guess, they did bump it up to almost 25 ft and the crest keeps shifting 12 hrs further out...see the post 2 up to see what the Tarboro forecast was this morning...

Drove over the 264 bypass bridge north of greenville just a little while ago. Theres one spot its getting close to the highway, within a couple of feet.
