Bonnie's remnants look quite impressive on radar and satellite right now. Imo should be reclassified as a TD or TS especially with the proximity to land.
Problem is there are stations all over and winds dont support it....looks decent though.
Had 1.2" yesterday at my house, at work we got hammered but a mile away at PGV they recorded .23" I find that really hard to believe.

For a TD though there isn't any minimum wind requirement just needs a closed LLC which this definitely has, so should have at least been upgraded back to a TD based on that alone. Areas along the OBX probably received 3-5" overnight from Bonnie. It's not hard to believe though you see how Bozart gets missed by storms lol so I could see PGV getting missed by the heaviest of the rains. More storms through the weekend it looks like.

That cant be right or otherwise they would have never downgraded Bonnie below a TD as its had a well developed llc the entire time.....I thought they didn't classify something a TD until it had a ascat pass showing sustained winds of 25-30 mph, and or a Dorvak number greater than 1.0 or recon info from a hunter aircraft.

Having said that Bonnie will live at 11am as we have TD Bonnie coming! If she moves east over the Gulf Stream she might make a run for TS status also.
So why then did they not have it as a TD yesterday when it had a closed well defined LLC off ILM? The one thing this system has had the whole time is a well defined LLC. I can see them reclassifying it now per the data from www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41025 but its the only one reporting anything close to actual TD type conditions. If they are going to name every llc in the Atlantic a TD then there would be dozens and dozens of them every year. There is more criteria to it than a closed surface low......

It also has to meet the characteristics of a tropical system which it didn't yesterday due to a lack of sustained convection over the circulation itself. Most waves in the Atlantic don't have a surface reflection which is why they typically aren't named. The ones that do usually are upgraded if it's evident it has an LLC. According to the reports I read the reason for the downgrade yesterday was it losing tropical characteristics and today they upgraded because it had regained them, which I certainly agree with.
The NHC is rather vague but multiple pro mets on storm2k said the main things they look for are as follows: is it warm core? Does it have an LLC? Is convection sustained over the center? Is it tropical in nature and is banding present? Those are some of the main criteria they used for a TD. In the instance you have an existing named system and the LLC becomes exposed they usually will maintain the name until either the convection has been absent from the LLC for 24 hours or more or if it loses tropical features or the LLC dies out. That's when they downgrade or stop issuing advisories on it. Sometimes they make exceptions if it's near land or might approach land soon and continue calling it tropical so people don't lose sight of it. However that seems to be a case by case basis.
Looks like after this weekend we will cool down for a few days before the first big heat wave begins to develop across the South. I'm thinking that once we transition to the hot summer pattern it will be quite dry and hot with the transition to a La Nina.
Mostly cloudy here right now with a few breaks every now and then. High res models indicate clouds hang around until about noon or 1pm then it should be game on.
Broke into sun right around Richmond on the drive home. Temp went from 77 under clouds to 90 at a rest stop on 95 in sunny conditions. Where there was sun should be primed to pop so time this afternoon.
Alright Bozart what's that storm total for your area lol?
Adding the .06" flood that I picked up this morning in the pre-dawn hours to the .05" cataract that fell upon me this evening yields a day's total of a monstrous .11".
We'll see if that new stuff expanding northward into southern Harnett County can come and wiz on me a little bit.
