Its time...
All models show atleast some form of frozen precip Friday evening.
Potential could be for a fairly large event if the pieces come together.
Using my typical "blend the models in the middle" Pitt county could be in for a fun weekend! Trends in the GFS today have been for cooler temps. PGV is only 1-2 degrees away from practically being all snow.

I dont like the models showing the possible snow so far north. Too much warm air will get into NC. If the precip doesnt get past the VA/NC border then inland areas have a chance.
I am pretty skeptical at this point, at this point just seeing snow in the air would be a win.....getting accumulating snow even if its just roofs and grass and vehicles is going to be hard to do temps look marginal at best the Euro has us at or above 32 for the entire event.

Yeah it would be tough to get anything substantial. But lets be honest. Even talking abt a threat like this in the first week of December is pretty awesome.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if someone ended up with 1-2inches of a wet sloppy snow. But it all depends on where the heavy band sets up. THis will be an incredibly thin "warm" nose at the surface and if that materializes any decent rates should easily overcome it.
The ultimate issue is that surface temps are above freezing AND ground temps will be atrocious it would take 3inches of snow to barely coat the ground probably. And with the peak toward evening most will be asleep and wake up to nothing haha.
BUT if we get a period of heavy wet snow mixing in during the afternoon Friday you bet I will be screaming my head off
PGV looks to on the outside looking in, this is trending towards a decent wet snow event for central NC but a few flakes mixing in is about all Pitt Co might see, Bozart may luck out with a dusting or a few inches but my side of the county looks rainy.

welcome tramadoc! Unfortunately i agree with you haha. It seems that there will be a chance of some flakes during the heaviest precip but just not quite enough cold to get it done. THe nam sounding is literally as close to snow as you can get without getting snow haha
It's always cold chasing rain, rain chasing cold, or a warm nose inserting itself. Being this close to the OBX and Albemarle Sound is not conducive to snow. Thanks for the welcome. I lurk around over on American Express. Try to learn and not speak.

I lurk and get involved some over there but not much gets pretty negative over there haha and not many east NC folks.
What town are you in? I jump from college in Wendell which is just outside of raleigh and Greenville. I’ll be in Greenville on break starting Thursday. This storm hitting during finals week is going to get me in trouble with grades haha
Yeah I will say this event is abt as close as a snow as u can get. So I’d say the bust potential on the snowy side is possible especially for Greenville with some very heavy rates. Not likely but possible

I live in Elizabeth City. One of my daughters friends goes to ECU. I'm familiar with Wendell and Raleigh. This storm is gonna keep us on the outside looking in unfortunately I suspect. It would be nice to bust on the snow side around Eastern NC. I think I will still get top see snow on Saturday though. I'm looking at a Land Cruiser near Pittsboro and I'm scheduled to see it Saturday morning. Nice little drive for a Saturday morning.

Nice! honestly if we see flakes fly that pretty good for this time of the year. Models hinting at multiple threats in the long range so lets use our luck on a much better setup than this one haha
