A tornado, the only one I have ever successfully chased, it happened near Vanceboro, but there was a lot of rain etc and in regular color its hard to see so I reversed the image to show the tornado.....
mine is the nice little I believe it was classified a MCS that crushed Pitt co on a Sunday 70+ mph winds and one awesome radar shot
That was a crazy storm and did tons of damage from simpson to the east. There was an entire forest nearly destroyed near grimesland. My avatar is of a EF0 tornado that touched down on the VOA road near my house in the april 2014 outbreak.
Heres a couple of videos of that storm. In the video of all the downed trees the woods were VERY thick there. You can see some of the thicker patches left standing. The entire forest was like that before that storm.

I remember that initial gust into the 60s at least. Went from peaceful to 60+ hit like a brick wall. It snapped the top off of a pine in our backyard right at the initial gust and I remember seeing debris flying above the trees. We had tracked it on the forum from up in VA and it never lost steam. I remember right over the Greene/Pitt line radar indicated 100mph winds and it cycled over me to abt 60 probably

Winds in Grimesland etc where 100 mph easy, there where 100's of trees down in that swamp along the Grimesland bridge road, and Grimesland looked like it took a Cat 2-3 cane had come through, trees down everywhere in town. This storm also destroyed the airport buildings and several airplanes in Washington.

Hmmm I don't remember that storm at all, I must have been out of town or something when it rolled through. Maybe I was in Raleigh or Rocky Mount area at the time.. Impressive video though wow!

So very disappointed in you Tyler. One of the biggest baddest severe storms in my life and you don't remember it? It formed along I-95 if memory serves me correctly. It was over the summer so i'm not sure why you weren't around for it. It caused extensive and widespread damage with confirmed winds over 70 with higher areas of damage. It had 3 fatalities and over 40 injuries in beaufort county.

I remember that that storm wasn't playing haha. Ripped through just before churches started around 5-6pm I think. Was pretty incredible. 3 fatalities too. Was the biggest severe storm I have ever seen. Wasn't it like in the upper 90s? The extreme heat fueled it I believe. I also remember the temp was 20-30 cooler after it

Yeah I don't remember that one at all... I was in college at the time so I would have either been out of town for work or on vacation. I would definitely remember that storm and have video if I was here to experience it! Sounds pretty epic, widespread 70+ mph winds are highly unusual for our area from a line of storms. With La NiƱa this spring could be active.
I definitely remember that one! It was one of the only times since I've been married that I was worried about losing part/all of the house. The wind was much stronger than Irene the year previous and it seemed like it lasted FOREVER. I had just gone out the back door to move the wife's car under the shelter, then I saw it coming through the trees on the other side of the field across the road. Tops of trees breaking off and you could see the wind crossing the field. I said to myself "Forget the car" and barely made it into the house. Had to hold the storm door shut to keep it from ripping off.
The neighbor lost a couple of large pine trees and it blew his picture window in - didn't break it until it hit the couch - but blew it in, frame and all. We drove down around northern Beaufort and eastern Pitt the next day. Like downeast said, trees on Grimesland Bridge Road and US 264 by the Highway Patrol station, across the airport and behind the airport were destryoed. I haven't seen anything like that since the tornado that hit Lewiston in Bertie back in 1984.

I remember the event but was in Fuquay. Worst t storm I have ever been in was Jan 1995! 135 mph winds in west new bern. Winds were clocked at wcti! I was within a mile of the station that night. I have never seen so much tree destruction. Neighborhoods had walls of tree debris lining the streets as far as you could see. I would say easily 10 plus foot high. Most wicked squall line I have ever seen. I still want a picture of the squall line and can't find it anywhere. Seymour Johnson got a 165mph wind gust that night. That was probably a one in a 100 year plus squall line for this area!
That Jan 95 event was still one of the highest confirmed thunderstorm winds outside of a tornado ever Jeff, but there is very little on the internet about it....the confirmed wind at Seymour Johnson was actually 85 mph with a peak wind gust to 145 mph...I remember WNCT had a gust to 100 and so did GUC, this is the only other confirmed 100+ wind gust I know of other than the gust over 100 in Hurricane Fran to occur in Greenville ....trees and stuff where down everywhere.
Hello, it's me (MenckenFan) using my real nickname now. Oddly, and too often irritatingly, my nickname isn't remotely related to my legal name. Anyway, hope all are well; am looking forward to some good spring weather (despite today's cold.)
Oh, and by the way ... Beffrey, YOU TOOK MY AVATAR! A POX ON YOU!
Edit: I see the text editor here is going to be a pain in the .
