That Jan 95 event was still one of the highest confirmed thunderstorm winds outside of a tornado ever Jeff, but there is very little on the internet about it....the confirmed wind at Seymour Johnson was actually 85 mph with a peak wind gust to 145 mph...I remember WNCT had a gust to 100 and so did GUC, this is the only other confirmed 100+ wind gust I know of other than the gust over 100 in Hurricane Fran to occur in Greenville ....trees and stuff where down everywhere.
Now see, I don't remember this one for some reason, even though that report showed damage all around me when I lived in southern Beaufort. I remember an event that occurred while I was working in Elizabeth City that caused me to leave early on a Friday night. There were some trees down at my Grandmother's and Parents' house in Bertie. I can't remember the year but I didn't think that was in January. Maybe it was.
Sorry I missed that one.

Hello, it's me (MenckenFan) using my real nickname now. Oddly, and too often irritatingly, my nickname isn't remotely related to my legal name. Anyway, hope all are well; am looking forward to some good spring weather (despite today's cold.)
Oh, and by the way ... Beffrey, YOU TOOK MY AVATAR! A POX ON YOU!
Edit: I see the text editor here is going to be a pain in the .
Sorry we originally had the profanity filter set in a way that it would take the letters of a word and filter any word out even if not a bad one, it's fixed now though Welcome aboard Tim!
Hey tim. I loved Izzy...you can have it if you want. I will find another one. I was in pactolus for that one. What a storm!
Thank you, I've used that avatar on the net (including even my FB!) for many years.
As for Isabel, yes quite a storm. I've no idea where Pactolus is but I was in ILM at the time and we had offshore tropical storm force winds most of the day despite being nowhere near the storm's center. The photo below I took while standing on the sand dune so unfortunately there's scant little perspective as to the wave heights but they were huge. A few surfers went out to take advantage but not many (I think even many surfers were scared of that big surf). I went out on Johnny Mercer pier and by looking at the pilings it appeared from trough to crest those waves were pushing 20 feet.
Yep, Isabel was my first treat after moving to Wilmington. Luckily I had lots more!

Pactolus is in NE side of Greenville. We had about a three hour period of insane wind gust with Izzy. I literally had to hold on to the rails of the porch. We were in a elevated log cabin (elevated cuz of Floyd) in a open field. izzy rocked! Guess who my avatar is now!
Ron...we need images of Jan 1995!

Yeah man that line was a beast and right after it hit HWy 17 it looks to have formed several QLCS type segments.....I bookmarked that site have never seen it before...

Bookmarked it, too. I've been to the Data request part of that site many times, but missed the interactive map part. Thanks for the link.
Really crazy track on the cyclone over by madagascar. It has reversed course and backed up over its previous track and is forecast to stall and the move forward again over the same waters.

Wow crazy video Ron, never seen a dust devil that strong before! I remember years ago when I went to Arizona one summer with our church how cool it was to see dozens of dust devils out across the valley areas during the afternoon. You could literally drive down the interstate and see multiple dust devils of varying size/intensity all across the desert areas.
