Normally I wouldn’t start a thread for an invest, but since 99L is looking like it may be a US threat, I think it’s worth watching. GFS and CMC both take it north of the islands and pose a East coast US threat. Here is 18z gfs run.
This one is struggling to get its act together even with fairly favorable conditions. Looks like the Euro might have the right idea of little to no development. I guess the new gfs upgrade isn’t all that great...
Maybe this season will be like the last few slow seasons.
The system still has a window of opportunity. It's stretched out and not consolidated but there's nothing really standing in it's way down the road either. Model support has backed off though.
We've already had 5 named systems and are likely to add another by next week with 90L. That's A lot for early August. It only also takes 1 storm to change the year. A storm comes along with the right pattern and a slow season can become a busy one in a hurry.

Watch models next few days. Spaghetti plots have actually trended north a tad with most models now taking it clear of the islands just to the north. May see a subsequent strengthening trend too. I'm still blown away by the lack of vigor from this storm. It's almost like it just doesn't want to do anything.

when storms get stretched like this they can't seem to get a center started. I've seen many systems like this where a center finally forms and it was a good distance from where models though it would. these type if systems also have centers that tend to reform to new areas a lot early in their formation

Euro is pretty strong and a recurve. It wouldn’t take much to shift this further west. We will need to watch future trends as this is still 6 to 7 days out.

Models that develop it are bringing it back closer to the coast. It’s becoming clear that the northern energy probably won’t take over like the Euro showed and the southern energy will become the dominant feature.
