Wow 45 at noon on a howling north wind on April the 5th with a decent amount of sun to boot.....its colder now than it was last night.....if the wind shuts off and we are clear then tonight should get 28 no problem

It's hard to believe we are struggling to hit 50 with full sunshine in early April. If only we had some precip to go with it we might have some snow lol. Definitely going to be a widespread freeze tonight I'm afraid, better cover those fruits and veggies!
27 right now at PGV thats a new record low for this date
Wow that's insane.. Hope everyone with gardens covered their stuff up. It's incredible how we are getting some good cold now when it's early April and we are ready for spring lol. Last night when I went to bed temp was already 34 here in the Knightdale area so I would guess we made to the upper 20s also.
Just got home from work and noticed my azaleas -- which yesterday had been in glorious splendor -- are this evening in rapid decline. I just hope my blueberries are all right.

I didnt look at my tomatoes I figur I know where they are headed, oh well will be back at Plant and Seed Sunday to reload and get my peppers etc....my wifes roses have tons of buds on them they are a bit hardier but I am not sure they will do much....
Yeah easily gusting 40-50, saw several Bradford Pears split off up the road and several larger branches down and even a tree over but it looked rotten, still the wind has that hard gusting feel to it with quick burst of heavier winds typical this setup with the strong mixing....had this happen earlier in the season before we dried out there would be trees down all over.
only 45 at 9:30 that means we got to see 18 degrees of cooling toget to the forecast low of 27...also the longer it takes the fewer hrs spent in the danger zone for plants etc

We had numerous trees down around the Raleigh area today. A few fell on cars in parking lots, on exit ramps, etc and a good number of power outages also. Pretty crazy winds today and they might keep temps from bottoming out as much tonight.
Indeed the winds seem to be helping. The atmosphere has not yet decoupled; winds here in Fountain are still running 8 mph at 1:30 a.m. That may be why the temperature is still several degrees higher than indicated in the matrix forecast. So maybe we won't be as cold for as long as feared.

As of 7:30am is 29 here at my house and surrounding areas are in the 27-30F range. The wind finally gave up enough to allow us to cool down quickly. Pretty impressive for early to mid April.
