I’ve wanted to be a meteorologist since I was a really small kid. I’ve always been fascinated with the weather.
I am about to start going to college for an Atmospheric Science major. However more recently I’ve been worried this is the wrong choice and finding a career where I can also enjoy what I’m doing while also making a reasonable amount of money is going to be hard to find and/or unrealistic.
I’m curious where you think the field is at right now and if you think this isn’t a field that needs to be filled right now. NoxVidMateMobdro
If I were to not do meteorology I would definitely do something like Environmental/Sustainable Engineering.
Thanks!

Meteorology off the bat is a small workforce. There won’t be a million job openings. That being said doing a little digging I found that this job force is a growing one.
There are tons of openings for TV meteorologists. A quick google search of “meteorology jobs” brings like 5-6 of TV Met jobs up just in my immediate area.
The atmospheric science degree is used for so much more than just TV though.
One of the most obvious employers would be the National weather Service. That would be a desk job and not on TV. They have job openings every now and then!
It’s really what you want to do. Atmospheric science degrees can be used for research labs or meteorology areas too.
You will have options but most likely you may have to move a significant distance from your current area.
As far as pay goes you should make good money. entry level may be between 40-60k but I’m not 100% sure. It could be higher. I do know many meteorologists make 100k+ with many years of experience

One thing to remember: your career needn't be circumscribed by your bachelor's degree. Just having any college degree gives proof of character. First, it is an IQ test of sorts (they don't just hand out difficult science degrees to morons); and it proves conscientiousness and industriousness. It means you have demonstrated you can take on a difficult, long-term goal and succeed at it. I would advise you study whatever field you have a passion for.
