Alright so wanted to get our first OT post going. What are your thoughts on the current apple vs FBI situation? Some are in favor of the FBI forcing them to create a backdoor into the iPhone while others are strongly against it.
Constitution is clear the government cant force work on to anyone in this way by making them help in a criminal investigation, also there is the 13th amendment and involuntary servitude which one would assume this falls under... therefore they cant make Apple do anything. I find it hard to believe that the folks at the NSA cant crack it I thought they were able to do anything lol.

Who cares I say. They are terrorist! Apple should do it! I have nothing to hide. Only people who worry about that stuff are people who have something to hide. Apple is helping terrorist!
But the thing is that under the constitution Apple is not required to make software to hack into its own devices, that's the job of the FBI to figure these things out. That's the whole purpose of encryption is to keep data safe. If apple loses in this case it will set a precedent that the government will no doubt use and an Orwellian society could very well happen with the government constantly spying on everyone at every time. Not only that but then every person who has an iPhone would then be vulnerable. If Apple created a "backdoor" into its operating system that could then be used by hackers and every person with an iPhone would now be susceptible to being hacked, credit card or financial info stolen, etc. This affects more than one person it would affect millions. Then it also opens it up for governments like China to do the same thing and who wants the Chinese spying on us? Another thing is the terrorist group destroyed several phones before the attack and didn't destroy the iPhone. That indicates they knew their was nothing of value on it and the government is wasting it's time imo.
That is a good point tyler. Never thought of it like that.
So does windows already have one of these "backdoors" or do you mean something different? Just wondering if this is why windows is hacked all the time and the fbi seems to be able to get anything they need.

As I understand it Windows is pretty easy to hack and since Android is open source it's incredibly easy to hack. Apple software is incredibly difficult to break the encryption in the way it's designed. The thing people don't realize is the government doesn't care about protecting us from terrorists, as they are claiming. They're using that excuse to promote fear while the real reason is to gain access to every device out there. Essentially then the government could set this precedent and then gain access to any encrypted device at any time they deem necessary. To me that's a scary thing and something I don't want the government to have access to, tracking me and tapping in to my phone calls or photo collection or financial info. No thank you!
