There is an increasing threat of severe weather in regards to Harvey's trek across the US. Seems the SPC is looking at our area for some potential trouble with a warm front laid across the state and the wind fields from Harvey. Not sounding the alarms too much just yet but they are leaving that potential open.
SPC disco:
Farther east, a warm frontal zone is forecast to set up west-to-east -- at this time appearing likely to reside across North Carolina -- as Harvey impinges on persistent surface high pressure centered over the Great Lakes. Across this area, a somewhat-less-tropical, more classic severe weather risk may evolve, as some heating boosts afternoon CAPE and the wind field near and south of the warm front veers/increases with height yielding profiles supportive of supercells. At this time, uncertainty precludes an aggressive forecast, but will introduce 5%/MRGL risk across the Carolinas area to begin highlighting this potential.

Yeah was looking at some high resolution models and things could get nasty. With 60kts of shear it won’t take much to set off some tornadoes if we get good instability.
Radar shows a nasty thunderstorm heading for Pitt County. Been hearing lots of thunder for a while, and now lightning approaching. Anyone upstream this storm? What's with the tornado warning off to our southwest? We gonna get clobbered?
Okay, it's here now. Lots of rain, that's for sure, but I don't see anything severe.

Yeah lots of rotation but the surface layer is probably a little to stable and keeping these storms in check. Also there are a lot of little showers and storms popping up interfering with inflow etc etc etc....still a lot of actionj on radar across the state and all of it has to work through here tonight the 3 k nam hammered us with 2-3 lines and didnt have it over till after midnight.
Plenty of clicking/cracking/booming CG's at my house now, even though I'm miles from any really heavy core. And this lightning isn't that weak pink/orange stuff, either. It's nuclear-white. Pretty impressive.
Man, we're getting hammered here in Greenville. This is like a night on WWII's Eastern Front with non-stop artillery. The thunder is so deep it's reached the point where my whole apartment is shaking. Oddly, my kitty is lovin' it, lol.

I had to drive back from Washington through the first line that produced the TOR. Absolute frog-strangler. Now getting more from the next round. Lots of C2G. I love it!
Radar shows almost 3" here just southeast of Winterville with plenty more on the way.

Did you see any damage from the couplet that passed through the area? I heard several barns were damaged and some localized power outages. Looked like a strong downburst on radar to me.
Probably 3 inches at my house today, ground is soaked and ditches full. If we get a hurricane with the saturated ground... a big hurricane like Irma will be, it would be bad.

That was one heck of a show last night. The rain rates were impressive and it filled the ditches in a matter of minutes. Had several strikes that were flash and then the bang right after. That's how I remember storms being growing up.

No damage that I saw. I believe Pink Hill was where that was. Just a ton of rain though. Around 4.5"
Took a run into Farmville late this afternoon to pick up dinner for me and the landlady. Headed south on 258 out of Fountain into Farmville and ran into a gullywasher as I drove past the Food Lion. Had to step through ankle-deep rushing water on the side of the road in downtown FarmVille to get out of my car. The whole time I sat in the restaurant waiting for them to finish up our order I kept hoping the rain would let up. But no, it was still a tropical downpour when I headed back out, and I had to wade ankle-deep again to get to my car. Ran back out of the rain at the exact-same place I'd run into it -- as I drove past the Food Lion.
When I was almost home, I turned around and peered southeastward and saw an apparent wall cloud back in the direction of Farmville. Took a nice shot of it at 5:53 p.m. I didn't see any rotation, or really any motion of any kind. But it sure looked nice.
