My first storm chase ever and wow was it fun. A severe storm was dropping down from the north and I was hoping it would impact where I live in Knightdale. However it became obvious that as always it would miss me, this time to the east. I quickly hopped in the car and drove a few miles down the road to a local church where I could sit under a shelter and film the wind/hail that I knew was coming.
Just as I arrived it began to hail. Within a few minutes the rain briefly stopped, the wind suddenly intensified and a "whiteout" of rain and hail began pelting the car. Winds topped out around 50-55mph I would estimate and power went out all around the area. The largest hailstones were approximately golfball size with most being nickel to half-dollar size. Despite being under a large shelter at the church you can hear hail pelting the car when the wind picks up at the beginning of the storm. The hail lasted a solid 3-4 minutes before slowly subsiding. A few pictures below of the radar screenshots and a few hailstones I was able to quickly grab. The lightning was too intense and sharp to get any other pieces of hail or take pictures of it. Enjoy the video below as well!

Updated the title to better reflect the actual day it happened lol it wasn't the 16th but the 19th. I guess I was so excited I forgot what day it was! Yep this was my first storm chase and it is probably the strongest storm I've ever been in from an overall intensity perspective (hail and wind).
Oh jeez, sorry for the delay but only just now spotted this thread ... congratulations!
That was an outstanding storm, and those hail stones, holy cow! I don't think I've ever seen hail that large before (well, perhaps once on the high plains of Colorado but I was only 12 then). Heck, I'm amazed at how few times I've ever even seen hail at all considering I've been through over sixty years of thunderstorms (almost all of them in the Mid Atlantic states).
Good move ... good catch!

Thanks Tim! It was my first storm chase and a successful one at that! The coolest part was the strong wind when my whole car began to shake, never experienced that before.
