Last night I watched all night as a NW/SE line of showers up near Lynchburg trained its way slowly southeastward, pointed right at me but hours away. When I finally went to bed at 5 this morning, the cells were well into North Carolina and still looking fine. But I still doubted anything would make it down here. Usually, something goes wrong -- a fizzle-out, or a near miss one side or the other. But occasionally a low-probability shot comes up, and at 9 this morning the last surviving cell -- a reasonably heavy one -- passed over me just before it died. Gave me a quick, beautiful .51". No thunder.

Nice, it’s always good to get a summertime thunderstorm! There’s nothing quite like them and I’m hoping end of this week we will get some classic ones around here to break the heat. The 90 degrees every day isn’t horrible but it is time for a little break from the heat.
