BIG SIGNAL for a massive east coast snowstorm including NC starting to show up for Jan 19-21 time frame......most models have it....most GFS give us lots of snow, others are a little north with the most up in VA still looks like the next real threat to track.
Models show some decent cold shots but the storms are all up the coast or the apps so we warm up for rain then get cold again. Gonna be a miserable wet winter if this pattern holds up. We need deep suppression in the long range and we just dont have it.
"While forecasters cannot predict exactly how cold it will get this year, where and when big storms will form and who will get the most snow, Cohen said to expect 'intense periods of winter weather becoming more frequent including more frequent episodes of arctic outbreaks.'"

There is little doubt that a extended very cold period is inbound probably starting by mid to late next week.....then there are numerous waves that will give us a shot at snow, I have little doubt most of not all of NC gets in on the action......to be fair we here in the east are due a big dog, last year was a near miss at a historic storm and we are due.
Let’s get real. The epic cold everyone was talking about isn’t going to materialize. Just like fantasy 7-10 day snowfalls. It’s not going to be near as cold as everyone thought. A whole lotta hype. And give up on any snow until mid February, if even at all. I hate to be Eeyore, but this “epic” winter is nothing more than a regular hope and pray for snow winter. Just like always.

I've already had 4.5" of snow this season, so I'm good. Bring Spring!
Euro says hi.....starting to look like there will be a storm sometime in the 7-10 day range

Pretty to look at, but doubtful. This arctic blast lasted all of two days and highs are projected Wednesday and Thursday to be in the 60’s. A small cool down this coming weekend, then back to normal temps for this time of year. There is no serious cold to work with. Even when we get sustained cold below 35°, it only last up to 48 hours and then moderates. Always rain chasing cold or vice versa.

Plenty of signal that after mid next week there will be several chances at winter weather maybe even significant weather and honestly given the setup eastern NC is more likely to be ground zero than further inland areas......plenty of wait and see though.

Lord, I hope so. The big board is killing me with the foothills and mountain guys. Don’t get me started on the SC guys and all their b**ching and moaning. They look at the models and if it shows a good pattern for coastal areas, they immediately scream that the setup is wrong or bad. Then when you try to tell them that it shows a good pattern from say Rocky Mount east to the coast and up to Hampton Roads, you get jumped on for being a MBY poster.
